VFX/Technical Artist

Uppercut Games is seeking a talented
VFX/Technical Artist
to help shape the visual direction of our current UE5 project. You'll also have a good understanding of runtime asset optimisation for consoles, help create tools that support our level team, and set up intricate Blueprints inside the Unreal Editor.

Founded in 2011 by industry veterans best known for their work on the Bioshock series, Uppercut Games has released multiple games across mobile, PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, including the EPOCH series, the Submerged series, and City of Brass. We are returning to our roots with a ground-breaking and genre-busting new project, published by Focus Entertainment.

About the Role:
You'll work across effects creation, optimisation, materials and shaders, and Blueprint development, collaborating closely with our art and design teams to bring memorable in‑game moments to life.
This position offers genuine flexibility, with the option to work onsite at our Canberra studio or remotely across Australia and New Zealand.
What You'll Do:
VFX Creation in UE5
* Create high-quality VFX guided by direction from the Art Director and Design Director
* Maintain clean naming, file structure, and project conventions
* Build effects using Niagara within UE5
* Continue learning as new Niagara and UE5 techniques emerge
* Develop materials, decals, meshes, and other supporting assets
* Produce LODs for VFX assets
* Optimise effects for both console and PC development environments
Technical Art
* Build tools and Blueprints that support efficient level production in UE5
* Develop level‑building tools that streamline team workflows
* Set up, place, and manage environmental VFX and spawning systems
* Analyse performance and optimise levels within UE5
