THE ROLE

As Assistant Client Manager, you'll own a portfolio of C and D class clients end-to-end. That means you're not a support person, you're the primary relationship and you're accountable for the quality and timeliness of everything that touches your clients.

You'll work closely with your Manager and play an active role in coaching and reviewing junior staff. The path from this role to Senior Client Manager is real, well-defined, and something we actively support.

What you'll be doing:

• Managing a portfolio of small business clients across tax, compliance, and advisory services

• Preparing and reviewing BAS, payroll, EOFY, FBT, and tax planning work

• Running Annual General Meetings (AGMs) and quarterly profit improvement sessions with clients

• Proactively identifying opportunities to add value — restructuring, tax planning, management accounts, and more

• Reviewing and providing feedback on junior staff work (accuracy, standards, process adherence)

• Coaching junior team members on Xero, Hubdoc, and Propeller's workflows

• Maintaining accurate, complete client records in Xero, XPM, Karbon, and supporting tools

• Communicating with clients in plain English — jargon-free, proactive, and always timely

WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT

This is not a data-entry or support role. You're not here to be handed work and process it. You own client relationships and you're accountable for outcomes.

This is not a 9-to-5 compliance factory. We expect quality thinking, not just completed checklists.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

Must-have:

• Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) or equivalent

• CA qualification (or actively completing)

• Must have enrolled in CA programme at any stage

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping roles

• Proficient in Xero — this is non-negotiable (95% of our clients are Xero-based)

• Must demonstrate expert/certified level proficiency in Xero

• Hands-on experience with BAS, payroll, EOFY, and Australian compliance obligations

• Strong written and verbal communication — you can explain a financial concept to a business owner without confusing them

• Ability to manage your own portfolio and workflow independently

• Australian work rights required — visa sponsorship will not be provided

Nice to have:

• Experience with XPM, Karbon, Dext, Hubdoc, MYOB, and Now Infinity

• Experience running client meetings or advisory sessions

• Prior experience reviewing or coaching junior staff

• Familiarity with FBT, tax planning, or business structuring
