Godolphin is one of the largest thoroughbred breeding and racing entities in the world. Encompassing seven countries and two hemispheres. We have an exciting opportunity for a Stallion Groom/Stud Hand at Northwood Park operation near Seymour, Victoria.
Reporting to the Stallion Manager the stallion groom is responsible for assisting with the routine care and welfare of Godolphin's world-renowned Group 1 winning stallion roster. The stallion groom will also provide assistance during the covering process in accordance with workplace procedures and requirements. At times will also be responsible for routine care and welfare of resident bloodstock including broodmares, foals, weanlings and yearlings. Stud staff provide general care including mucking out, feeding, grooming, and assisting with the treatment of horses, in addition to general upkeep and cleaning activities.
The successful applicant should be a passionate, reliable and driven individual with thorough attention to detail, a positive attitude, good work ethic and be willing to go above and beyond in the role.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Ensure all horses receive the highest quality of care during the covering process
- General routine breeding procedures and daily duties required in the stallion barn
- Routine health checks, monitoring basic health and welfare horses, recognising signs of injury and/or illness and reporting concerns,
- Assist with feeding and exercise regimes on a daily basis
- Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment
- Compliance with all organisational policies, procedures and processes and legislative standards and requirements
Criteria:
- Excellent horse handling skills, with sound knowledge and practical experience handling and caring for working thoroughbred stallions.
- Experience and confidence handling thoroughbreds of different classes, ages and temperaments.
- Demonstrated competence and confidence handling a variety of stallions of different temperaments during the covering process.
- Practical understanding of horse health care and welfare requirements
- Understanding of the thoroughbred industry and operations.
- Current Drivers Licence
