Location: Suite 3, Specialist Medical Centre, East Joondalup Private Health Campus, 60 Shenton Avenue, Joondalup, WA 6027

Work type: Full Time of 38 hours per week and max term of 12 months or lesser.

Schedule: Expected to work on a 24/7 roster including public holidays and weekends. The role is a relief for regional and hospital labs.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Hospital Scientist to be a relief scientist covering necessary shifts.

- Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
- Perform all routine procedures from specimen reception to execution of results for pathological diagnosis, including specimen dissection
- Assist with stock control
- Ensure records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
- Maintain all equipment and operate equipment in line with protocols
- Maintain current scientific knowledge
- Participate in routine and audit-related quality assurance activities
- Contribute to continuous improvement and development of new assays as required
- Participate in training staff
- liaise with internal and external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
- Comply with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes

About you

To be considered, you will meet the essential requirements:

- Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience and skills within the discipline
- Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
- Ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
- Ability to work with a high degree of independence with infrequent supervision
- Commitment to quality and excellence
- Willingness to adhere to department and organisational policies and procedures
- Positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive team member
- Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
- Ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
- Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- This role may require vaccination history and evidence for department-specific vaccine preventable diseases
