Primary objective
The Manager NT Cancer Registry (NTCR) oversees the development, management and maintenance of the Northern Territory Cancer
Registry and drives opportunities for collaboration to improve equitable cancer outcomes using population cancer data. The position
manages a team to ensure timely and high-quality cancer data, including the consolidation and validation of cancer case information.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide expertise in quality assurance in cancer data ascertainment and processing, coding practices and timeliness.
2. Provide leadership, training, management and mentoring to a team of registry support officers.
3. Resolve complex coding and data processing matters.
4. Drive opportunities for collaboration to improve equitable cancer outcomes in the NT using population cancer data.
5. Build and maintain strong and effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders including hospital administrators, medical
professionals and other registries.
6. Represent NT Health on relevant jurisdictional and national working groupings related to cancer population data collection.
7. Assist with data analysis, extraction and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
8. Respond positively to change with a commitment to ongoing improvement and career development.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
10.Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A relevant undergraduate qualification, or evidence of equivalent knowledge and experience relevant to the role.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and an ability to interpret pathology and radiology reports.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of the International Classification of Diseases in Oncology.
4. Demonstrated knowledge or willingness to learn data and patient management software such as MS Excel, Caresys.
5. Excellent verbal and written communications skills to consult and collaborate with peers, clients, stakeholders and managers.
6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead, coach and mentor team members.
7. Sound organisational skills including work planning, monitoring, reporting and delivery of complex tasks in tight timeframes.
8. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues and sensitivities that influence health
care and delivery of service programs for individuals and groups.
Desirable
1. Master’s degree in public health, Applied Epidemiology or Health Research, or Doctor of Philosophy.
2. Ability to understand and apply relevant legislation such as the Cancer (Registration) Act 2009 and the Information Act 2002

3. Demonstrated experience with operational planning and proficient management of human, material, and financial resources to
support operational effectiveness and attainment of organisational objectives.
4. Demonstrated ability to facilitate a positive work environment, modifying work practices where necessary to meet the needs
of healthcare consumers and staff.
5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to maximise productive working relationships, including with relevant
specialists and executive management, and manages conflict to promote co-operation, teamwork and understanding.
6. Demonstrates and applies well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and
sensitivities that influence health care provision for individuals and groups.

1. Graduate Diploma, or equivalent, beyond entry to practice relevant to specialty area.
