The Role:
The primary objective of this role is to effectively manage the repair of damaged livestock crates and support tradespersons with routine maintenance tasks. The role ensures that all assigned duties are completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with business needs. This includes maintaining workshop cleanliness, adhering to Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards, and ensuring timely completion of work orders. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate strong teamwork, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to maintaining equipment and operational efficiency.
Reporting to the Fabrication Supervisor, your duties will include but are not limited to:
* Perform repairs on damaged livestock crates, ensuring they are restored to a safe and functional condition.
* Assist tradespeople with maintenance tasks such as welding, fabricating, and basic repairs to support daily operations.
* Review scheduled work orders at the start of each shift to plan tasks efficiently and ensure timely completion.
* Accurately complete work orders with detailed records of repairs, materials used, and time spent on tasks.
* Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workshop by regularly disposing of waste and following housekeeping procedures.
* Conduct routine inspections of tools and equipment, reporting any issues to the supervisor for timely repairs.
* Follow all Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and reporting potential areas for process enhancements.
* Participate in training programs to develop skills in fabrication, welding, and equipment maintenance.
* Perform other duties as required, demonstrating flexibility to meet changing business needs.
About you:
* Experience in fabrication, machining, or a related trade is preferred.
* Physically fit and comfortable with manual labor, including some heavy lifting.
* Basic welding skills required (MIG essential, TIG & ARC preferred).
* Hold a valid driver's license and a National White Card.
* Understanding of production or industrial environments and their demands.
* Strong commitment to workplace safety and following OHS guidelines.
* Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively.
* Proactive, flexible, and willing to learn new skills.
