We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full time Traffic Engineer to join the Transport Planning and Assets Branch within the Council.
Join our team and play a key role in shaping safe and efficient transport solutions for our community. In this position, you will undertake engineering investigations and implement traffic improvements across Council's road network, ensuring compliance with best practice standards. You will also provide expert advice on traffic planning, management, and operations to a diverse range of stakeholders, including road users, development assessment officers, State Government agencies, and internal teams.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Civil Engineer with strong traffic engineering expertise to contribute to innovative projects that enhance mobility, safety, and sustainability in our region.
Position responsibilities include:
* Investigate and resolve traffic complaints using professional judgment.
* Design and review traffic works (e.g., intersections, signals, bikeways).
* Handle traffic planning tasks: layouts, signals, surveys, signage, school safety programs.
* Communicate investigation outcomes to senior staff and Councillors.
* Provide expert traffic engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders.
* Maintain clear records for compliance and legal purposes.
* Build collaborative relationships and explain technical concepts in plain language.
Key indicators for success:
* Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
* Specialised qualifications in Traffic Engineering.
* Eligibility for RPEQ registration (Professional Engineer under Queensland Professional Engineers Act) highly regarded; required for Level 7.
* Experience with traffic management for urban/rural networks and city centres and design of local traffic infrastructure and assessment of development traffic impacts.
* Proficiency in traffic engineering software (e.g., SIDRA Intersections, STREAMS).
* Strong research, analytical, and project management skills.
* Ability to plan and implement traffic management improvements.
* Self-motivated, tactful, and collaborative in multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to pass all pre-employment and background checks as required.
