The position provides a range of administrative functions for the Office of the Custodial Inspector Tasmania and has a support role in planning and assisting in inspections and in the production of reports to the Minister. This position also undertakes research relevant to custodial centres to ensure inspection standards are consistent with best practice.

Period of Appointment
Fixed-term until 2 September 2027
Hours per fortnight
73.50 hours per fortnight- flexible options available.
Duties
* Provide assistance and support to the Custodial Inspector to meet the objectives of the Custodial Inspector Act 2016.
* Undertake comprehensive research and analysis activities including:
o Undertaking environmental scanning to identify future issues, trends and best practice in custodial services.
o Developing and managing information databases for statistics and information and entering and collating information into appropriate formats to facilitate analysis and decision-making.
o Identifying trends and issues and presenting findings and recommendations to the Principal Inspection Officer.
o Supporting the inspection and liaison functions of the Office.
o Ad hoc project topics as required.
* Provide advice and support to the Custodial Inspector on issues related to the Custodial Inspector's objectives including reporting requirements through research and data extraction functions.
* Maintain the custodial inspection standards in accordance with s6(1)(c) and s6(2) of the Act and assist in developing, maintaining and updating pre-inspection survey tools.
* Prepare, design, coordinate and quality assure correspondence related to the development of draft inspection reports resulting from routine and occasional inspections of custodial centres in accordance with mandated timeframes.
* Develop and maintain registers of information relating to inspections and systemic improvements.
* Provide comprehensive administration support to the Custodial Inspector, including management of correspondence and preparation of a range of high-level documents.
* Coordinate and liaise with other custodial facilities and stakeholders.
* Undertake other duties and responsibilities as required.
