About The Role
The Senior Adviser in the Corporate Strategy team plays a pivotal role in shaping the department's long‑term direction. As a key contributor to the development and refinement of the department's four‑year strategic plan, the Senior Adviser helps define the organisation's vision, priorities and pathways for delivery. The role is both strategic and operational, ensuring that high‑level intent is translated into practical frameworks, processes and tools that support execution across the department.
What You'll Be Doing
As Senior Adviser, you'll play a key role in:
Driving strategic alignment across the department by building strong relationships and securing buy‑in for the strategic plan.Enhancing our core planning frameworks, including the Planning Framework, Corporate Management Framework and Project Management Framework, along with the tools, templates and guidance that support them, ensuring they're practical, contemporary and easy for teams to use.Leading the annual planning cycle, including developing analysis and insights to support senior executive discussion and decision-making, and designing and facilitating engaging, productive planning workshops.Providing expert advice on strategic planning, business planning and organisational performance.Delivering high‑quality strategic products—reports, briefings, presentations and analysis that influence decisions and drive action.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
Strong strategic thinking and conceptual and analytical skills.Experience in organisational strategy, planning or performance frameworks within a complex environment.Well‑developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build constructive facilitating workshops or supporting organisational planning processes.A proactive, collaborative mindset and a desire to contribute to a positive team culture.

About Us
The Corporate Strategy team sits within the Budget, Corporate and Funding Strategy Division (BCFSD). BCFSD supports sound decision making to optimise resource allocation and funding and strategically position the department to deliver its priorities, manage its risks, and publicly report on progress.
We Are Responsible For
Providing analysis and strategic advice on the effective and efficient allocation of resourcesCoordinating the development of funding and state budget submissionsReviewing, developing and implementing major reforms to educational funding modelsLeading the development of the department's Strategic Plan and Annual Report, and Statements of Expectations for the portfolio's regulatorsDelivering the strategic risk management and business continuity functions for the departmentSupporting better practice integrated planning and risk practices across the department.
The department is responsible for early childhood and school education in Victoria through the provision of a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The Department of Education provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and early learning.
