Position Overview
Reporting to the Accounting Manager (and partnering with the CFO as required), the Project & Systems Accountant supports the day-to-day accounting operations and systems activities for all group entities. This is a hands on, detail oriented role suited to someone with construction industry exposure who enjoys working with systems to benefit a broad range of stakeholders across finance and operations.
This position's focus is on accounting, systems and financial analysis tasks including reconciliations and ad hoc accounts payable involvement. The role requires strong accounting skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of financial processes.
The role is critical in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial data across projects, supporting informed decision-making, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organisation.
Project Accounting
· Support the project teams with project accounting requirements typical to construction project contracts (job cost allocation review, inventory tracking, accruals, WIP calculations, variances, cash and revenue tracking).
· Support project audit and compliance requirements by maintaining clear documentation and reconciled workpapers.
· Support the preparation of financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses
Finance Systems
· Maintain data integrity across finance systems, including master data, coding structures, and workflow controls.
· Partner with operational stakeholders (project teams, procurement, payroll, commercial and operations leaders) to resolve queries and improve process adherence in partnership with the ERP system provider.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through process mapping, controls uplift, automation and reporting enhancements.
General Accounting
· Process and post daily non-PO transactions across multiple group entities (AP/AR/GL).
· Perform bank, balance sheet, and key control account reconciliations (multi-entity).
· Assist with month-end close processes, including journals for accruals and prepayments with supporting reconciliations/schedules.
About you
• Australian degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or similar.
• Minimum 2+ years' local relevant experience in an accounting role, with prior exposure to the construction industry (e.g., project accounting, job costing, subcontractor/claims).
• Strong prioritisation skills, attention to detail and comfortable working across multiple entities and competing priorities.
• Systems minded and process oriented. Someone able to learn ERP/accounting platforms quickly and able to improve the way work gets done.
• Confident communicator who can work with a broad range of stakeholders across finance and operations.
• Experience with Cheops ERP system is desirable.
• Progress toward CA/CPA (or interest in commencing) is desirable.
