Join a high-impact team as a Information & Privacy Officer where your expertise in information access, privacy, and legislation will directly shape transparent and compliant decision-making.
Key activities
* Assess and determine access to sensitive information in line with legislative requirements
* Manage complex, high-profile FOI requests (including media and political inquiries)
* Respond to subpoenas, warrants, and statutory orders within strict deadlines
* Liaise with applicants, legal representatives, insurers, and internal stakeholders
* Conduct comprehensive searches across paper and digital records
* Prepare submissions and respond to investigations from OVIC
* Support legal proceedings, including briefing solicitors and appearing at VCAT if required
* Provide expert advice to internal teams on FOI, privacy, and information release processes
* Investigate privacy incidents and support breach response activities
* Contribute to policy development, training, and awareness initiatives
Skills and experience
* Experience making reviewable decisions within a legislative framework
* Demonstrated experience processing FOI requests
* Strong working knowledge of the FOI Act, Privacy & Data Protection Act (PDPA) and/or Health Records Act (HRA)
* Experience in a legal environment (desirable)
* Proven ability to exercise sound judgement and initiative
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, manage competing deadlines, and deliver under pressure
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
