Challis Community Primary School (PS) believes in enabling students to reach their academic, social and emotional potential whilst becoming valuable members of the community. Challis Community PS is unique in offering health and education services from birth, with formal schooling ranging from 3 Years to Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6.

We are on a long-term improvement journey to reach or exceed State mean results in all areas.

We have two clear priorities:

- Teaching students to behave (Including communicate effectively, play co-operatively and express emotions).

We implement the following whole school programmes:

And we are a Positive Behaviour school.

Our positive school culture is built around:

- Collaboration through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Coaching
- Partnerships with families and service providers.

We have a relentless focus on teaching children to read and to demonstrate appropriate play and social skills. We use Explicit Direct Instruction when teaching new concepts and provide significant support to assist teachers to develop high impact teaching skills.

Our school's teaching programs allow all children to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to become confident learners. We pride ourselves on offering effective, individualised Literacy and Numeracy programs. We also offer a variety of specialist subjects including Music, Science, Physical Education and Health.

Your belief in the power of collaboration will be an advantage. You should possess a willingness to learn and participate in coaching cycles that contribute to a positive team culture.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally be reflective, open to being coached, value collaboration and have a “whatever it takes” mindset to ensuring each learner is a successful learner.

Suitable applicants should have a strong knowledge base on the Science of Reading; the process of how children learn to read. A strong belief that exemplary, evidence-based teaching practices, alongside a commitment to constant improvement, will lead to improving the life outcomes of all students.
