Austal has entered into a landmark Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA) with the Commonwealth of Australia, launching a new era of continuous naval shipbuilding within the Henderson Defence Precinct and across Western Australia. As Australia's Strategic Shipbuilder, Austal will start by delivering eighteen Landing Craft Medium and eight Landing Craft Heavy vessels for the Australian Army.

About The Opportunity
With new programs coming online, Austal are looking for a Naval Architect to join our Design team in Melbourne, WA. The successful candidate will be a qualified Naval Architect with excellent communication skills and a high level of commitment to assist with the design of our projects.
Key Objectives & Responsibilities
* Design vessel local and global structure, equipment foundations, hydrostatic and stability calculations, resistance, and powering calculations.
* Preparation of design and drawings including calculations and reports.
* Selection and requisitions for hull, fire, and safety equipment.
* Design in accordance with technical requirements (Specification, contract, and relevant rules).
* Design in accordance with Austal processes for safety, quality, budget, and risk mitigation.
* Provide Design support through production, commissioning, and delivery.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Australian Citizen
* Hold a Construction safety induction (white card)
* Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture
* Proven experience in the areas of vessel design and regulatory compliance
* Proficient in Microsoft office, Maxsurf and FEA software
Desirable
* 5 years' experience in ship design and construction
* Experience in the design of Naval platforms
