**About the role**
We are seeking a fully qualified Locomotive Driver to to prepare, manage and operate locomotives and trains safely in accordance with their level of competency, safe working qualifications and established Pacific National local and operational procedures and agreements, in order to meet customer and operational requirements.
In order to operate and manage train movements to meet the requirements of customers and the business, key responsibilities include:
- Drive Pacific National trains in DOO mode and adhere to all Safe working regulations and requirements of driver accreditation
- Liaise with train control regarding the operation of the train to schedule, run the train to maximum efficiency, to maximize fuel savings within the parameters of adherence to the schedule
- Liaise and work with contract maintainers, perform minor maintenance, and be responsible for all first level locomotive servicing and provisioning activities
- Problem solve faults whilst operating the train in conjunction with speciality providers
- Participate in the development of a safety culture in the organization, work safely at all times and ensure all employees comply with OH&S Regulations and company policies and procedures
- Maintain competency in all operational skills and engage in training to upgrade or update skills
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects aimed at maximizing productivity and efficiency and best practice customer service
- Work co-operatively to achieve positive work place relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Assist in shunting duties as required.
**About you**
- Strong commitment to safety including demonstrated ability to implement emergency procedures
- High level organisation, planning and time management skills to be able to work in a dynamic 24/7 shift work environment with flexibility and commitment, including ability to lift up/lay back within EA parameters
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to utilise problem solving skills in the workplace
- Experience operating locomotives with ATP (Automatic Train Protection)
- A customer focused approach and the ability to be flexible in changing circumstances
- Any experience operating intermodal services will be highly regarded as well as experience with Pacific National class locomotives
- Passion for success and willingness to undertake ongoing training and development activities
- Current Motor Vehicle Driver's License
- A basic level of computer proficiency.
Please note that you must be available and flexible to work a 24/7 roster that includes both local working and barracks working.
