At RPS, we are growing our Environmental Planning & Assessment team and are seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Consultant to join us in Sydney or Newcastle. This is a senior leadership opportunity to drive project delivery, strengthen client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of our Oceans and Environment business.

The Opportunity
As a Principal Environmental Consultant, you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality environmental planning and approvals projects while supporting business growth and mentoring team members.
You will lead projects from inception to completion, manage client relationships and contribute to winning new work, all while ensuring delivery excellence and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and deliver environmental planning and approvals projects across infrastructure and development sectors
* Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor
* Identify and secure new business opportunities with existing and prospective clients
* Manage project financials including budgets, forecasting, invoicing and performance
* Mentor, coach and support team members to build capability and engagement
* Oversee preparation of tenders, proposals and strategic inputs into business development
* Ensure compliance with quality, safety and environmental standards
* Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team culture
About You
You are a commercially astute and technically strong environmental professional who thrives in a leadership role.
You will bring:
* Degree in environmental science, planning, engineering or related discipline
* 12+ years’ experience in environmental planning and approvals, ideally within infrastructure
* Strong experience in project delivery, client management and business development
* Proven ability to manage project financials and deliver on time and budget
* Experience leading and mentoring teams
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Professional certification (desirable)
