Our team

The Enabling Services Branch delivers key corporate functions across Geoscience Australia, including communications, engagement, commercial and legal and Human Resources (HR). Our success is driven by a trusted partnership that connects our expertise with the needs of our stakeholders. Within the HR function, our team provides a range of services to support our people, including culture and engagement, recruitment and development, strategic HR program management, wellbeing, workplace relations, workforce planning, workforce reporting, and workforce analytics.

The opportunity

As an APS6 HR Professional you will have the opportunity to apply and deepen your expertise across a diverse range of strategic and operational activities. As a member of the HR team, you will contribute to the implementation of Geoscience Australia's People and Culture Strategy 2028 and activities aligned with our Organisational Transformation Program.

Below is a summary of each of the available roles:

The Team Leader, Health and Wellbeing provides expert advice and coaching on complex health-related matters, including early intervention, injury management, workers' compensation, and return to work processes, ensuring alignment with legislation and APS requirements. This role leads the development and implementation of health and wellbeing initiatives that foster a positive WHS culture, while also managing the rehabilitation management system and driving continuous improvement. With a strong focus on stakeholder engagement, the role contributes to strategic HR policy development, supports key projects aligned with the People and Culture Strategy 2028, and mentors the APS5 Advisor to build capability and deliver impactful outcomes. Accurate and timely record-keeping underpins all aspects of the role.

The Team Leader, Performance and Conduct, serves as the primary contact for employees and managers on performance and conduct matters, providing expert, end-to-end case management and strategic guidance in line with legislation and policy. This role leads the coordination of the Performance Development Plan process and drives capability uplift through coaching and tailored people management initiatives. With a strong focus on stakeholder engagement, the role also contributes to strategic planning, policy development, and continuous improvement across the Corporate Division. It supports the delivery of key HR projects, maintains accurate records, and fosters productive partnerships to enable effective and timely resolution of complex people matters.

The Team Leader, Recruitment is responsible for the day-to-day management of a team of HR professionals delivering recruitment solutions, designed to meet the needs of our business. You will manage the workflow of recruitment requests ensuring priority and service delivery, in addition you will review and establish practices that support and enhance our processes and be a point of contact for our key internal and external stakeholders. This role will provide you with an opportunity to grow your strategic capabilities and contribute to our work plan in the delivery of recruitment related strategies that will transform our business.

* Apply a systems informed approach, using HR systems, analytics tools (e.g, Power BI, Excel), and research to accelerate decision-making, reporting, and continuous improvement.
* Lead and coach with influence, providing expert guidance on complex matters such as performance, conduct, injury management, and workforce planning, while mentoring others to build capability.
* Communicate with clarity and purpose, producing high-quality written materials (e.g, reports, presentations, policy documents) and engaging in effective verbal communication to support stakeholder engagement and influence.
* Drive innovation and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance HR practices, systems, and culture through creative problem-solving and initiative.
* Manage programs and projects independently, using initiative to plan, prioritise, and deliver outcomes aligned with strategic HR goals and the People and Culture Strategy 2028.
* Uphold accuracy and compliance, maintaining meticulous records and ensuring alignment with legislative, APS, and organisational requirements.
* Bring relevant experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas: workforce planning (operational or strategic), establishment management, Human Resources reporting (such as the APS remuneration survey and WGEA public sector reporting), workforce analytics, Human Resources systems administration,, performance and conduct management, health and wellbeing, or enterprise-wide HR strategy and transformation.

Desired skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications

* Relevant HR qualifications and/or experience in case management, health and wellbeing, performance and conduct or strategic HR are desirable, but not essential.
* Relevant qualifications in data analysis, business, analytics or ICT supplemented by practical experience applied in a HR context are desirable, but not essential.
