What You'll Be Doing / Purpose of the RoleEssential Eligibility: This position requires lived experience of disability. Applicants must: Identify as a person with disability, and bring lived experience that informs leadership, governance, and advocacy at a strategic level. This requirement aligns with the organisation's purpose, values and board composition policy.
Responsibilities
* Lead the Board and ensure strong governance, values alignment, and compliance
* Chair Board meetings effectively
* Work collaboratively with the CEO on strategic direction
* Represent the organisation at events and with stakeholder engagement
* Ensure the organisation remains person-centred, inclusive, and rights-based
* Support Board development and succession planning
* Act as a public advocate for people with disability
About You
Essential Selection Criteria
* Identify as a person living with disability
* Demonstrated leadership experience (Board, senior management or community leadership)
* Strong understanding of governance principles
* Demonstrated high level communication skills and emotional intelligence
* Ability to chair meetings and facilitate respectful, inclusive discussion
* Strategic thinking and sound decision-making skills
* Commitment to disability rights, inclusion, and advocacy
* Desirable Selection Criteria
* Previous experience as a Board Chair or Deputy Chair
* Knowledge of disability advocacy and/or not-for-profit sector
* Experience working with government, funders, or community stakeholders
* Financial literacy or experience overseeing organisational budgets
