Genus is delivering critical transmission infrastructure to support Victoria's renewable energy future. We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Controller to support the construction of transmission lines and structure across a major construction project.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
The Senior Cost Controller is responsible for managing, controlling and reporting on all indirect project costs to ensure accurate forecasting, transparency and compliance with project governance requirements. The role provides specialist cost control oversight for indirect cost categories such as preliminaries, camps, logistics, plant, overheads, professional services and support functions.
Reporting to the Finance Director, this role works closely with project controls, commercial, construction, logistics and finance teams, the role ensures indirect costs are planned, tracked and forecast in line with approved budgets and cost control points. The Senior Cost Controller plays a critical role in supporting informed decision‐making, managing cost risk and ensuring compliance with the Builder PSDR and project cost management frameworks throughout the project lifecycle.
* Manage and control all indirect project cost categories in accordance with approved budgets
* Establish and maintain indirect cost budgets, baselines and control structures
* Track actual costs, commitments and accruals for indirect cost items
* Prepare and maintain accurate forecasts, including Forecast Final Cost for indirects
* Analyse cost variances, trends and drivers and provide insights to project leadership
* Support development and maintenance of cost control points and reporting milestones
* Coordinate indirect cost inputs to Monthly Progress Reports and governance reporting
* Support cashflow forecasting for indirect cost components
* Work closely with construction, logistics and support teams to understand cost drivers and forecasts
* Support change management processes by assessing indirect cost impacts of scope or program changes
* Maintain accurate cost registers, assumptions and supporting documentation
* Ensure cost data integrity across project cost management systems
* Support audits, assurance reviews and information requests related to indirect costs
* Identify and elevate cost risks, opportunities and mitigation strategies
* Support continuous improvement of indirect cost control processes and reporting
Essential Skills / Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in commerce, finance, quantity surveying, engineering or a related discipline
* Significant experience in cost control or project controls roles on major infrastructure or construction projects
* Demonstrated experience managing and forecasting indirect project costs
* Strong understanding of cost control principles, forecasting and variance analysis
* Experience working within structured cost governance and approval frameworks
* High level of proficiency in Excel and cost management systems
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills
* High attention to detail and strong documentation discipline
* Ability to communicate complex cost information clearly to non‐financial stakeholders
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills across project, construction and commercial teams
* Ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines
* Experience in regulated, large‐scale or linear infrastructure projects (desirable)
