The People, Property and Security Division works in partnership to deliver strategic and operational workforce services that enable and enhance organisational capability.
The division provides stewardship, support and services across integrity; conduct; property; fraud and corruption; security; performance management; rehabilitation management; recruitment; learning and development; inclusion and diversity; workforce planning and analytics; workplace relations; people support; culture and health, safety and wellbeing.The People and Policy Branch is the front line of human resources (HR) for the department.
We deliver timely and accurate responses to support our people across the country with a strong focus on customer service, capability uplift and innovative practices at every stage of the employee experience.
We are actively shaping a future-ready workforce by attracting mission-aligned talent and increasing the footprint of our Entry Level Programs in our critical roles.
We manage the full spectrum of employee-related functions to create a workplace where individuals feel supported, empowered and inspired to do their best work.The key duties of the position include The key responsibilities of the People and Policy Branch are broadly outlined below.
Please note this does not necessarily indicate specific current vacancies, but you may wish to outline your abilities against specific functions or across multiple functions.Workplace relations support and advice The branch provides advice on the application of the department's enterprise agreement, workplace policies and employment legislation.
We oversee complex industrial and employment condition matters and act as the key liaison point between business areas and Unions that represent departmental employees.
Other key functions include:
• Play a lead role in advising the executive and managing preparations for the next round of enterprise bargaining.
• Manage and support change consultation processes, National Consultative Committee Secretariat, workplace disputes, voluntary redundancy, HR Delegation and casual conversion assessment processes.
• Manage entitlements related to overseas deployments.SES support The branch provides dedicated support and expert advice to the Senior Executive Service (SES) including managing recruitment and onboarding activities for SES vacancies, developing and implementing initiatives that enhance leadership effectiveness, performance, and accountability.
We support key projects aligning to the department's goals and broader APS initiatives, including the SES100 initiative to increase First Nations representation, the APS Leadership Capability Framework, and the APS Reform agenda.Recruitment services The branch oversees the provision of recruitment strategy and services to ensure contemporary practice and attraction strategies to recruit the right talent and build a diverse and capable workforce for the department.
We have a strong client-focused and collaborative approach to provide exceptional end-to-end recruitment services and support business areas in line with their tactical workforce planning.
Other key functions include:
• Lead the provision and presentation of data-driven workforce insights to inform strategic recruitment planning and support organisational reporting requirements.
• Oversee the department's entry level programs to attract, develop and retain graduates and other entry level employees.
• Provide strategic insights and market analysis to determine how to identify and attract the right people for the right jobs.
• Lead implementation of the Recruitment Strategy and First Nations Workforce Strategy.
• Establish strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver recruitment initiatives and projects that improve talent acquisition, employment pathways and early career development, ensuring our workforce is equipped with the skills and potential to succeed.People Support services The branch manages essential support services and builds trusted relationships across the department to ensure HR services and support is provided to drive high performance.We oversee specialised case management for performance, probation, attendance, behaviour, and rehabilitation to support the department's functionally diverse and geographically dispersed workforce.
