This is a permanent full-time position and may include on-call or overtime work dependent on operational requirements.
Salary from $100,466.86 up to $116,251.58 per annum plus superannuation, with the package assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications.
You may be required to work across the Wollongong Local Government Area.
This is a hands-on role requiring physical capability to undertake manual tasks.
What you will be doing
Take ownership of Council's LAN and SD-WAN services, ensuring they run smoothly, securely and efficiently.
Be hands-on with network cabling, patch panels, DNS, DHCP, remote access and telephony systems to keep everything connected.
Act as a 2nd/3rd level escalation point for service desk tickets or network faults, resolving issues quickly and effectively.
Travel across 40+ Council sites within the Wollongong LGA to install, troubleshoot and maintain equipment (a current driver's licence is a must).
Collaborate with teammates and trusted vendors to deliver high-quality, reliable service to 1,800+ users.
Document work clearly, including support guides, network diagrams and low-level designs, to share knowledge accessibly.
Apply ITIL principles to manage incidents, problems and changes, staying proactive and professional in all work.
About you
You're experienced in complex IT environments with hands-on expertise in enterprise-level networking infrastructure—configuring WAN links, managing switches/routers, and optimizing load balancers.
You have experience with enterprise voice systems (e.g., PBX, Skype for Business) and understand the importance of seamless communication.
You communicate clearly, prioritise effectively, and remain calm under pressure.
You are detail-oriented, analytical, and able to solve problems before they escalate.
You are self-driven and capable of working independently while knowing when to escalate or collaborate.
You value safety and WHS principles, especially when handling electrical equipment or lifting hardware.
A current driver's licence is required, and you should be comfortable travelling across Wollongong's LGA.
A relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience is acceptable.
