About Us
The Clinical Governance department consists of various teams of dedicated and dynamic people who work collaboratively with each other, clinicians, teams, and management across the district. Our primary focus is on quality, patient safety, patient experience, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement. The HNE Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist will work as part of the Quality Systems Team Portfolio, scoping CDI workflows into the Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) and Computer Assisted Coding.

About The Role
As the Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist you will engage with clinical staff and coders, offering expert guidance, reviewing documentation practices, and providing actionable feedback. Your role involves bridging the gap between documentation and clinical coding, ensuring compliance and driving improvements across the system. The initial focus will be on Hospital Acquired Complications at John Hunter Hospital while also implementing CDI practices into SDPR workflows.
Responsibilities
* Engage with clinical staff and coders to provide expert guidance on documentation and coding practices.
* Review documentation and coding, offering actionable feedback to improve accuracy.
* Bridge the gap between documentation and clinical coding to ensure compliance.
* Implement CDI practices into SDPR workflows and monitor progress.
* Focus on Hospital Acquired Complications and other priority areas as directed.
Qualifications and Experience
* Highly motivated, systems thinker with strong communication skills.
* Good at nurturing positive relationships with diverse services and teams.
* Clinical Coding experience in an acute care environment and/or formal qualifications in Clinical Coding.
* Knowledge of documentation requirements and their relevance to clinical coding.
* Proficiency interpreting clinical data and coding for accurate patient care representation.
* Strong attention to detail to detect inconsistencies.
* Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong critical thinking and problem‐solving abilities.
* Team player who collaborates across multidisciplinary environments.
* Ability to influence clinicians in improving documentation practices.
* Excellent organisational and time‐management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.

To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
