Your Contribution
The purpose of Smart Healthy Kids (SHK) position is to provide support to disengaged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families in Townsville. The target of support to be provided are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and their children between the ages of 0-4 years old by delivering family carer and parenting support.
This will include three elements:
* Access and Engagement
* Activity and brief intervention
* Referrals and showcasing culturally appropriate service deliver
The SHK position is funded under the Children & Schooling Program contract with The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA).
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Provide Family Wellbeing Manager with all relevant data and information regarding SHK service
delivery as required and / or directed
2. Maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with Family Wellbeing Practices
3. Ensure secure management of all program files & compliance with applicable privacy legislation &
policies
4. Identify and build families understanding of strategies to support child well-being development &
educational outcomes
5. Provide activities & brief interventions
6. Support referrals to culturally appropriate services to support the family's role in promoting early
learning & development
7. Collate feedback from programs and families
8. Work as part of an integrated team to provide information that supports and encourages parental
participation in the role as first teachers, support awareness and extension of early learning and
development
9. Participate and contribute to joint community events
10. Actively participate in scheduled Family Wellbeing community-based activities to provide brief
interventions for information, advice and referral and promote and support family's participation in
evidence-based community programs
11. Coordinate delivery of community promotions and education programs as required
12. Develop and document good working relationships and/or collaborative partnerships with relevant
early years services
13. Maintain current professional knowledge and understanding of:
– The Child Protection Act 1999
– Child Safety & Wellbeing
– All other related legislative and regulatory requirements for the provision of services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
– Related legislative and regulatory requirements specific to Early Childhood Education
– Available support for the provision of services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
