We are currently recruiting motivated people to join our Detention Service Officer team in Redcliffe at the Perth Immigration Detention Centre.
About the role
Detention Service Officers play a key part in ensuring a safe, respectful, and stable environment for individuals in our care. You'll be the person they interact with daily, helping maintain their wellbeing, guiding them through routine processes, and ensuring security standards are upheld at all times. No two days are the same—the work is varied, challenging, and rewarding.
What We Offer
Paid Training Program: Spend 7 weeks at Perth Immigration Detention Centre completing full‑time, paid training that equips you with everything you need to step confidently into the role.
Nationally Recognised Qualification: Receive a fully funded Certificate III in Immigration Detention Operations giving you valuable qualifications for your future.
Wage Progression: Earn $31.96 per hour during training, rising to $34.81 plus penalties once you're operational.
Role responsibilities
Foster a safe and respectful environment by engaging directly with detainees and reporting any concerns about abuse, impropriety, or health and wellbeing.
Ensure the centre operates smoothly, rotating across posts and assisting in high‑priority areas to support staff and detainee safety.
Conduct screening and monitoring, including searches, security checks, and use of CCTV and alarm systems.
Respond to emergencies, follow critical incident protocols, and document all incidents and interactions in alignment with the Case Management Framework.
Perform headcounts, conduct welfare checks, and complete daily reports with accuracy and professionalism.

Be available to complete a 7‑week full‑time training program in PIDC.
Have strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Possess teamwork skills and a collaborative mindset.
Have the ability to complete all required pre‑employment checks including an Australian Federal Police Check and medical including a functional assessment and drug & alcohol screening.
Carry out a variety of physical tasks such as push‑ups, sprints and squats, etc.
Hold a Working with Children Check or be willing to obtain one.
Have availability to work on a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends and public holidays.
