Echuca Regional Health (ERH) is offering a unique opportunity to be a vital part of the Medical and education team and collborate with regional health services to develop a well-coordinated and cohesive Rural Generalist training program that aligns with VRGP (Victorian Rural Generalist Program) key objectives and strategic plan
This exciting role will also coordinate the VRGP and provide a case coordination function to trainees to assist them in navigating their training and developing relationships with health services linked to employment opportunities. The department of health has established a Statewide Reference Committee to monitor and oversee the statewide activities of the VRGP and Regional Networks in developing Rural Generalist and GP training pathways and managing local training development
As the Regional Rural Generalist Coordinator you will be responsible for
5. In collaboration with key stakeholders, develop a well-coordinated and cohesive Rural Generalist training program that aligns with VRGP key objectives and strategic plan in the Loddon Mallee / Echuca Regional Health.
6. Provide leadership, expert advice and innovative solutions within the Loddon Mallee region to consolidate existing and expand Rural Generalist training pathways to meet the needs of the rural communities in the region.
7. Provide advice to support the administration and monitor the performance of funding associated with the VRGP in the region, which includes: John Flynn Prevocational Doctor Program (JFPDP), advanced skills training positions, consolidation of skills positions and the Rural Generalist Training and Education Grant Program.
8. In collaboration with stakeholders facilitate networked training pathways, coordinate rotations for trainees by liaising and negotiating with health services, GP practices, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and other relevant stakeholders in hospital and primary care settings.
9. Provide case management, training and career guidance to RG/GP trainees at all stages of their training. Consider their clinical interests, community health needs and long term employment opportunities in the area they want to live and work.
10. Collect data and information that will contribute to measuring the outputs and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) associated with the VRGP and the JFPDP. This includes but is not limited to: high-quality data entry and management of the Client Relationship Management System (CRM) and reports to the Regional Network, the Statewide Reference Committee and the Department of Health as required.
11. Ensure all funded rotation training positions are accredited by either the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV) and/or relevant training college.
12. Support high-quality training experiences through regular structured check-ins with GP/RG trainees.
13. Liaise with prevocational doctors that are participating in the JFPDP and encourage a career as a rural GP or lateral entry to the VRGP if the rotation is not part of VRGP pathways.
14. Work collaboratively with VRGP Clinical Leads and relevant stakeholders to identify new training positions and assist with the accreditation (or re-accreditation) and development of supervisors.
15. Work collaboratively with stakeholders to facilitate uptake of mentoring programs which are aligned with the professional, personal and social interests of trainees to minimise attrition from the program and support transition to rural employment.
16. Build relationships with general practices, health services, rural medical clinical schools and the training hubs in the region to promote the VRGP and attract medical students/medical trainees.
17. Participate in regional and statewide marketing and promotional activities.
18. In collaboration with the Rural Community Intern Training programs, select, induct and support Rural Generalist Year 1 (RG1) doctors; assist in developing their end-to-end training pathways and a fit-for-purpose education program.
19. Advocate for Rural Generalist trainees regarding professional recognition, remuneration and employment models; and where required provide mediation support if a resolution cannot be reached between parties.
20. Coordinate ancillary activities to support Rural Generalist trainees and supervisors such as mentoring, individual wellbeing support services, and family support services.
21. Collaborate with all Regional Networks to share knowledge, learnings and innovations.
22. Manage regional budget and expenditures and report expenditures to the Department of Health as required.
23. Provide secretariat services to the Regional Network ensuring alignment with the Terms of Reference.

This position requires completion of a satisfactory National Police Check and (where relevant) provision of a Working With Children Check and check on the Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme prior to appointment. In addition, this position requires evidence of vaccination status for COVID-19.
