Primary objective

Lead and empower a geographically dispersed team to accelerate the strategic growth of the Northern Territory as a premier

tourism destination, delivering impactful and innovative industry development programs that strengthen the sector's capability,

competitiveness, and long-term sustainability.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Generate, implement, manage and assess strategic global tourism industry development activities, both proactively and in

response to global economic conditions, trends and social changes impacting the tourism industry while being accountable for

achieving identified outcomes in line with Government priorities and policy platforms.

1. Provide leadership to the industry development team, effectively utilising allocated resources in the development and delivery

of development strategies to position the Territory as a destination of choice for the visitor market.

1. Build and maintain partnerships with industry stakeholders, tourism operators, other government entities and departmental

colleagues to ensure strategic and operational objectives are met.

1. Represent Tourism and Events NT at inter-jurisdictional forums, on relevant working committees and at industry functions to

progress positive outcomes for the Territory including key messages on how to improve the Territory's competitive position as

a tourism destination.

1. Prepare correspondence, briefings and reports for Government, the Tourism and Events NT Advisory Board and the

Department's Executive Team as appropriate.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Extensive track record in the development and successful implementation of effective industry development programs,

including proven experience in identifying and addressing evolving trends.

2. Strategic, conceptual and analytical skills with the proven ability to interpret and appropriately respond to a changing operating

environment.

3. Influential leader, capable of formulating and articulating ideas at a senior level and building a strong collaborative team.

4. Ability to clearly focus on goals and priorities and ensure optimum use of financial and human resources consistent with

professional management principles.

1. Commercial acumen and self-motivation with an entrepreneurial approach to delivering feasible outcomes.
2. Effective interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity, and well developed written and oral communication skills (including

public speaking).

Desirable

1. Knowledge of the economic, social, political and cultural opportunities and challenges impacting tourism in the NT including

the diverse interests, aspirations and cultural values of a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.

2. Tertiary qualifications in a related field, such as business.

This role requires significant travel and attendance at meetings, forums and events which often occur out of normal working hours.
