Chief Engineer – Data Centre Engineering Operations
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a highly motivated Chief Engineer to join our Data Centre Engineering Operations (DCEO) Team. The Chief Engineer manages the on‑site operations of data centre mechanical, electrical, and fire‑lifetime safety equipment, drives large technical projects, and serves as the focal point for all facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain 100% availability of the data centre Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) equipment and fire/life safety systems through planned preventative maintenance and emergency response.
* Coordinate with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and vendors to perform day‑to‑day troubleshooting and maintenance of generators, UPS, chillers, building automation, and related equipment.
* Lead small‑to‑medium projects across the facility and cluster‑wide technical programs that monitor equipment performance, track costs, and document results for deployment to other sites.
* Cover 24 × 7 on‑call shifts, manage contractor and vendor work, and ensure compliance with local legislation and best practices.
* Analyze facility infrastructure operations, prepare reports, and generate Change Management and Incident Management tickets to support DCEO event resolution.
* Deliver documentation and training for facility operations, participate in construction and operational meetings, and interface with Infrastructure Ops management for day‑to‑day requirements.
* Support recruiting efforts and provide exceptional customer service and satisfaction to internal stakeholders.
Must Have Qualifications
* 5+ years of operations and on‑call support for data centre or mission‑critical facilities.
* 3+ years of construction or project management experience.
* Experience in vendor management, Microsoft Office, and building automation system operation.
* Electrical or mechanical Journeyman license and operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
* Construction or project management experience.
* Experience with mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems for critical environments.
* Operating engineering license and Journeyman license.
Security Clearance
Hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance.
