THE OPPORTUNITY
Viva Leisure, one of Australia's leading fitness companies, is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to join our team in Canberra.
We're looking for candidates who are either trade qualified or have suitable hands-on experience, and who are seeking a dynamic role where no two days are the same. This position works as part of a team of internal and external maintenance staff, attending a variety of our business locations to perform both preventative and reactive maintenance.
In this role, you will support Viva Leisure's teams across an assigned region by delivering reactive and preventative maintenance services, managing daily work orders, and providing on-site assistance to club staff and Facilities team members. You will escalate issues when needed to ensure timely resolution, respond flexibly to urgent maintenance needs, and maintain clear communication with stakeholders including Club Staff, Area Managers, and the ACT/NSW/QLD/VIC office. Collaboration with the Central Services team will be key to ensuring smooth, consistent maintenance operations.
This is a permanent full-time opportunity. All tools and a company car will be provided.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Respond to and resolve in-club maintenance requests, prioritising tasks for efficient daily workflow and ensuring work areas are left clean, safe, and operational.
* Carry out a range of general maintenance duties, including patching and painting, minor gym equipment and facility repairs, door hardware servicing, manual handling, high-level cleaning, and fitting or replacing spare parts.
* Complete scheduled monthly maintenance tasks in line with checklists and operational standards.
* Communicate clearly with club teams and stakeholders, ensuring maintenance issues are followed up and resolved promptly.
* Build positive, solution-focused relationships with club staff and act as a key contact for Central Services.
* Maintain strong knowledge of assigned sites and provide on-call support when required.
* Assist with new club fit-outs, refurbishments, and project tasks, working safely and within the scope of your skills, experience, and qualifications.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
We are looking for someone with:
Skills & Experience
* Demonstrated experience in a trade, maintenance, or handyman role, with strong technical knowledge across general maintenance and fitness equipment repairs
* Sound mechanical aptitude, strong problem-solving skills, and proven ability to complete on-site work orders across multiple locations
* Proactive, hands-on approach with strong ownership of tasks, able to work independently and collaboratively
* Effective and positive communicator with strong organisational skills suited to fast-paced environments
* Experience working on construction sites or in similar environments
* Basic computer literacy, general IT troubleshooting skills, and experience using asset management systems (e.g., CMMS) is highly regarded
* Elevated Work Platform (Yellow Card) certification (desirable)

* Asbestos Awareness certification
* White Card (Construction Induction)
* Working with Vulnerable People Check
* First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
* Working at Heights certification (or equivalent)
* 10830NAT Silica Dust Hazard Awareness (mandatory in ACT, desirable in other states)
