Mount Morgan Central State School (approximate student population: 230) and Mount Morgan State High (student population: 190), both heritage listed, are the only schools located in Mount Morgan, a town boasting immense historical significance. In 2012, the primary school celebrated 125 years of public education; the high school its centenary. Mount Morgan (population: 2500), located in the heart of central Queensland some forty kilometres south west of Rockhampton, has a rich appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. The traditional owners are the Gangulu people. Approximately thirty per cent of the student population identify as indigenous.
