About VALS

VALS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and Victoria's specialist legal and support service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Established in 1973, we provide culturally safe legal advice and representation across criminal, family, civil and human rights law, youth justice and specialist litigation—alongside wraparound supports including our 24/7 Custody Notification Service, family violence programmes, client support and community legal education.

About the Research & Evidence Development team

The Research & Evidence Development Unit builds the evidence base for the impact of VALS' services, supports the design and evaluation of innovative justice programmes, and undertakes research that informs policy advocacy and responses to community need.
