The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. It provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery offers a wide range of experience in trauma, hand and wrist surgery, skin cancer, burns and general paediatric and adult reconstructive surgery. The teaching programme has a high degree of commitment from Consultants, and research and publications are actively encouraged.
The Department comprises six Plastic Surgeons each with a super speciality interest, four Registrars (one PRS SET Trainee from the VIC/TAS training programme, three unaccredited), one Surgical Basic Trainee and one Intern.
Salary
$138,978 – $194,675 per annum (salary range in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025).

Medical Practitioner Level 5‐11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar).
Award
Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
Period of Employment
Fixed term, full-time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time per fortnight, pro rata), commencing from 1 February 2027 until 7 February 2028. An opportunity available for commencement from 3 August 2026 – 18 month appointment negotiable for suitable applicant. Up to 24‐month contracts negotiable with suitable applicants.

Duties
* Responsible for the day-to-day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated site/facility.
* Provide after-hours emergency as determined by the relevant work unit.
Essential Requirements
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
