Overview

Sustainable Gardening Australia is seeking an experienced trainer, horticulturalist or home gardener to manage and deliver our community education programs. Flexible schedule, approx. 2 days per week.

Be a key member of SGA’s passionate team by:

- Providing education and training to the community about evidence-based sustainable gardening practices. Our programs focus on four key areas: growing healthy food; encouraging biodiversity; mitigating and adapting to climate change; and sustainable garden design.
- Developing relationships with new and existing training clients (local councils, libraries, community gardens and neighbourhood houses).
- Taking the lead role in developing new training content and other initiatives.
- Being responsible for scheduling and administering training activities.

This job involves weeknight and weekend work and employment will initially be via a 12 month casual contract.

Position Description

You will join a friendly, supportive and collaborative group of dedicated people. Your role will include, but will not be limited to:

- Management of SGA’s community workshop and webinar program including the taking of bookings, scheduling, delivering, invoicing and follow up communications.
- Presenting face-to-face and online presentations.
- Developing new and maintaining existing community workshop content. The areas of focus are: Gardening for Food and Health.
- Developing solid relationships with local councils, libraries, community groups and other organisations across Australia as customers of SGA’s training services.
- Scheduling training events through partnerships with local councils and other organisations.
- Developing a pool of casual presenters to deliver workshops as required.
- Participating in team meetings with other specialists and volunteers and liaising with management and the Board.
- Working with SGA volunteers as required.
- Any other activities as required.

This job is part time (0.4 FTE) and initially a 12 month’s contract. The job involves presenting webinars and workshops on weekends and on weeknights (subject to your availability) as well as approx. 8 hours of planning and admin work per week. Salary is based on a full-time salary of $75,000 - $83,000 per annum plus superannuation and leave entitlements.

Key selection criteria

- A qualification in training, horticulture, science, ecology or sustainability or experience in environmental programs.
- Knowledge/interest in environmental sustainability.
- Experience in training, presenting or public speaking.
- Excellent written communication skills which enable communicating effectively with a wide range of audiences using a range of platforms.
- Experience in administrative functions including preparing quotes and invoices, scheduling events and preparing reports.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, meet deadlines and manage your own work.
- Interpersonal skills which will allow you to build relationships with clients and collaborate effectively with other members of the small SGA team.
- Experience as a home gardener.
- Experience in identifying, applying for and managing grants.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to use data to measure program effectiveness.
- Experience working in not-for-profit or small organisations.
