Birdon is looking for a Fitter Leading Hand to join our team in Port Macquarie, NSW
Proudly Australian and privately owned since 1977, Birdon is a multi-national Australian Prime Contractor providing whole-of-life solutions to defence, government, marine, energy, and resources customers.
Our Port Macquarie yard encompasses extensive capabilities focused on the design, maintenance, and manufacture of marine vessels for defence and the maritime industry and the recycling of defence and large commercial infrastructure.
As a Fitter Leading Hand, you will play a crucial role in ensuring project tasks are completed safely, to the highest quality and technical standards, by managing tradespersons and other team members on Birdon Marine projects.
Key Accountabilities
* Support the Supervisor to conduct risk assessments prior to production work commencement in accordance with Birdon's Safe Work Management System, documenting control measures in a task Risk assessment
* Ensuring safety processes are complied with
* Setting up the job site safely and maintaining housekeeping requirements
* Ensure team members are appropriately competent and trained to under-take the scope of work assigned
* Training and development of apprentices
* Role modelling of acceptable workplace behaviours consistent with Birdon's Code of Conduct and values
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Essential
* Cert III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade
* Relevant trade experience with experience in a supervisory or leading hand role.
* Ability to understand and interpret drawings and specifications
* Nationally accredited General Construction Induction (white card)
* Ability to lead a team
* Strong commitment to quality principles
* High attention to detail
* Team player with a "make it happen safely" attitude
Desirable
* Maritime industry experience
* Other trade qualifications & skills
* First Aid
