Children's House (Pre‐K, Kindy & Pre‐Primary) · Reports to Principal

Perth Montessori seeks a Montessori Guide (teacher) for a short‐term family leave position in our Children's House, catering for students aged from 3 to 6 years in Pre‐Kindy, Kindy, and Pre‐Primary from Term 2 to the end of the 2026 school year.

The Guide will deliver high‐quality, engaging, and inclusive education aligned with Montessori principles and practices within a multi‐age environment. We seek a passionate, reflective, and dedicated Montessori educator who finds joy in nurturing young children and supporting their families. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team member, eager to tackle challenges alongside colleagues, exercising humility and compassion.

You will actively contribute to a workplace culture founded on trust and respect, remain open to feedback, embrace ongoing learning, and approach challenges with a growth mindset and solution‐oriented outlook.

Key Responsibilities

1. Know Students and How They Learn

* Apply Montessori theory of development to individual learning paths within multi‐age groups.
* Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs, promoting independence and self‐directed learning.
* Observe developmental stages and sensitivities of children, tailoring holistic learning experiences.

2. Know the Content and How to Teach It

* Deep knowledge of the Montessori National Curriculum (3–6), EYLF, and the West Australian Curriculum.
* Design and implement hands‐on, developmentally appropriate lessons using Montessori materials.
* Differentiate instruction to accommodate disability and learning difficulties.

3. Plan and Implement Effective Teaching & Learning

* Design lesson plans that balance structure and freedom, enabling students to develop at their own pace.
* Prepare a Montessori‐aligned learning environment with materials and resources that inspire curiosity.

4. Create and Maintain Safe, Supportive Environments

* Establish a classroom atmosphere of respect, empathy, and kindness across varying ages.
* Apply positive behaviour management strategies grounded in restorative justice principles.
* Guide students in self‐discipline and responsibility within the learning space.

5. Assess, Provide Feedback and Report

* Use Montessori observation and documentation to assess and record student progress.
* Communicate with parents/carers via written semester reports, conversations, and meetings.

6. Engage in Professional Learning

* Participate in ongoing professional development and collaborate with colleagues to share best practices.
* Reflect on teaching practice and approach growth with openness to feedback.

7. Engage Professionally with the Community

* Build constructive relationships with parents/carers and engage them in the Montessori community.
* Collaborate with colleagues to foster a cohesive and supportive teaching team.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

* Teaching qualification recognised by TRBWA (B.Ed., Dip.Ed., or Master of Teaching) with early years certification.
* Montessori Diploma certification (ages 3–6) from a recognised training centre.
* Demonstrated experience as a Montessori guide for children aged 3–6 years is highly desirable.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to create a child‐centred, nurturing environment founded on mutual respect.
* Collaborative mindset with openness to feedback.
* Knowledge of evidence‐based reading instruction (science of reading / Enhanced Letters and Sounds) — highly desirable.

Additional Requirements

* Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
* Current First Aid, Asthma, and Anaphylaxis certification (or willingness to complete).
* Flexibility for occasional out‐of‐hours events.
* Adherence to Child Safe Standards, Child Protection Policy, and Staff Code of Conduct.
