The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (the Reef Authority) is a Commonwealth non-corporate entity and a statutory agency established by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975. Our objective is the long-term protection, ecologically sustainable use, understanding and enjoyment of the Great Barrier Reef for all Australians and the international community through the care and development of the Marine Park.

Managing a reef roughly the size of Italy demands many skills and talents, so you don’t have to be a marine biologist to contribute to our mission. From finance to marketing roles, we have a team with diverse skills. We are looking for individuals who can bring their unique skills, experience and knowledge to our high-performing and inclusive organisation.

The Position

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Systems Manager to join our team. This position supports the Assistant Director Permission Systems and Compliance and the broader Environmental Assessment and Protection team with data systems management. It is responsible for the management and coordination of business system maintenance and improvements associated with the Reef Management platform and related interfaces, including quality assurance of data, data analysis and reporting, internal and external user support, troubleshooting and delivery of system enhancements. The position also supervises, coaches and performance-manages staff.

The role undertakes processes required for collection and reconciliation of revenue associated with the environmental management charge and exercises a range of delegations relating to permissions and compliance. It also provides advice and accurate reports on revenue streams and visitation statistics.

- You are an excellent communicator, both in written and verbal forms across internal and external stakeholders at all levels, strengthening relationships.
- You have an analytical mind, an eye for detail and above-average organisational skills.
- You thrive under pressure and don’t get flustered when faced with competing priorities.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel and the presentation of visual data, and you have experience in database interrogation to produce reports.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide professional and technical advice in relation to complex problems regarding data system operations that is informed, timely, practical, transparent and risk-based.
- Under limited supervision, interpret and apply relevant Commonwealth and state legislation, policy and process to ensure data integrity and appropriate system functions.
- Develop, coordinate and manage policy and procedures related to the data system to achieve continuous improvement.
- Lead information reporting and data analysis.
- Supervise and develop staff through coaching, performance feedback and encouraging career development to support team outcomes.
- Manage relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders by resolving complex and contentious matters requiring sensitivity and persuasion to achieve Reef Authority outcomes.

Eligibility

- To be eligible for employment, candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of application.
- The position requires a Baseline security clearance; successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
- The successful candidate will provide identity documents and undergo an identity pre-employment check through a Document Verification Service.
