Lead Cyber Security Adviser (Contract)
Location: ACT, QLD, VIC, SAContract: Initial 12 months + extension option (up to 24 months)Clearance: NV1 (mandatory)
We are currently seeking experienced Lead Cyber Security Advisers to support a large, complex government environment delivering critical digital systems and services.
This is a senior advisory role where you will provide expert cyber security guidance across system authorisation, risk management, and security governance, working closely with business and technical stakeholders.
You will be responsible for providing specialist cyber security advice, supporting system authorisation activities, and helping system owners achieve and maintain Authority to Operate (ATO) in line with Australian Government security frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, review, and maintain security artefacts including:
o Security Risk Assessments
o System Security Plans (SSP)
o Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&M)
* Support system owners through ATO processes and ongoing compliance
* Assess and implement security controls aligned with:
o Information Security Manual (ISM)
o Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)
o Essential Eight
* Analyse and document cyber security risks and recommend appropriate treatments
* Provide clear, practical security advice to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of security policies, procedures, and practices
* Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across complex environments
Skills & Experience
* Strong experience with Australian Government security frameworks (ISM, PSPF, Essential Eight)
* Demonstrated experience producing security authorisation artefacts to support ATO
* Solid understanding of cyber security risk management and control assessment
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and complex systems
* NV1 security clearance
* Experience working in large or complex ICT environments
* Prior experience within a Federal Government setting
