Primary Purpose of Role
The Head of Advanced Match Officials is responsible for leading the training, development and progressing of Football Queensland's pool of advanced match officials, including oversight of the Football Queensland Referee Academy.
This role plays a critical part in delivering a positive and high-performance culture, implementing a robust developmental model, and ensuring a clearly defined pathway for advanced match officials across the state. The role works closely with Football Queensland staff statewide and key stakeholders to ensure alignment with the Football Queensland Referee Strategy and optimal delivery of referee development programs.
Key Responsibilities
The Head of Advanced Match Officials will be required to:
* Lead all referee development coaches in delivering Football Queensland's Referee Strategy and advanced match official curriculum to meet development objectives.
* Align all FQ conference-based staff (Region Managers, General Managers, Referee personnel) to ensure strategic delivery of the advanced referee pathway and curriculum.
* Ensure advanced match officials are developed in accordance with Football Australia's curriculum and frameworks.
* Manage and oversee all aspects of the FQ Referee Academy, including curriculum and operational delivery.
* In conjunction with the Manager - Officials Strategy, manage relationship with Football Australia's Referee department and the FA Referee Academy.
* Oversee Match Day Coach appointments and referee assessments for advanced match officials, ensuring they provide timely and beneficial feedback.
* Lead the delivery of training sessions for advanced match officials across the state.
* Oversee and approve match official appointments to Football Queensland semi-professional leagues.
* Liaise with the Customer Service - Officials team regarding state-wide appointments to ensure sufficient match official coverage.
* Lead the implementation of Football Queensland's Match Official's Pathway across the state.
* Manage and maintain a pool of talented referee coaches to support the ongoing growth of advanced match officials.
* Manage and maintain relationships with clubs and advanced match officials, including:
Pre-season coach briefings
Ongoing communication and education (KMI)
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with advanced clubs across the state.
* Attend club meetings and events as required.
Key Performance Measures
Success in this role will be measured by:
* Delivery of the KPIs outlined in the FQ Referee Strategy.
* Progression of match officials into the Football Australia Referee Academy.
* Progression of match officials into Football Australia panels and competitions.
* Progression from the FQ Referee Academy to the FQ Advanced Panel.
* A performance and development agreement will outline specific performance standards and goals, reviewed regularly to ensure ongoing alignment with business objectives.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
* Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in Sports Management and/or elite football officiating.
* Understanding of football in Queensland, including governance structures and regional frameworks.
* Understanding of football officiating in Queensland and nationally, including relevant qualifications.
* Strong ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks independently and in collaborative environments.
* Maturity and experience in dealing with a wide range of football stakeholders.
* Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills, including:
Strong oral and written communication
High standard of personal presentation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media platforms.
* Valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain one.
* Ability to initiate and maintain strong relationships with referees, volunteers, and professional administrators.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across various platforms (phone, email, video calls, in-person).
* High attention to detail and accuracy.
* Valid driver’s licence.
Desirable
* Experience working with volunteers and a diverse range of stakeholders.
* Knowledge or experience within the football industry and landscape.
Other
The position will require evening and weekend work and travel across Queensland.
