About the Role: Control Systems Engineer
This is an exciting prospect to support the development of sustainable technologies within a growing and forward-thinking start-up. The company requires an experienced control systems / automation engineer that can work effectively and autonomously in a start-up environment.
Responsibilities
- You will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering PLC based control and automation systems, with responsibility for the full controls lifecycle: from architecture and systems design through to onboard commissioning and trials.
- Hands on PLC programming and control systems design is needed.
- You will be expected to take initiative, solve problems independently and be able to work from a blank sheet of paper, capturing requirements, proposing and delivering the complete solution.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Ideally a degree or similar in a relevant field (e.g. electrical engineering, mechatronics, etc).
- Strong experience with the design and programming of PLC-based control systems and automation systems (From scratch).
- Knowledge of networking and communication protocols (e.g. CANbus, Modbus, IP, NMEA, etc).
- Solid understanding of control system architecture (capture requirements, develop systems specifications, implement design solution, etc).
- Design and develop electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and tackle unfamiliar problems.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for product trials, installation, commissioning.
- Experience with AI/ML techniques for enhancing control systems (beneficial but not essential).
- Knowledge of marine regulations and standards (beneficial but not essential).
- Use of Model-based design using Matlab/Simulink tools (beneficial).
- Able to design and develop HMI / UI using high level software (e.g. C#, C++).
Location & Working Pattern
This role will be based in Hampshire, and the company offers hybrid working. People located in and around Southampton, Basingstoke, Fareham, Portsmouth, Guildford, Farnborough, etc, could potentially make this work.
