The role

Monash Women's Department is seeking experienced Lactation Consultants to provide high‐quality evidence‐based breastfeeding and lactation support, education and care to mothers and families during pregnancy and the postnatal period.

About the Role

We are looking for a Lactation Consultant on a part‐time ongoing or fixed‐term basis to work at Dandenong Hospital or Casey Hospital. The successful applicant will be responsible for responding to referrals from Maternity wards, triage priority for referrals from Newborn Services and other hospital areas, providing staff education through face‐to‐face and virtual platforms, contributing to improvement of state KPI (infant feeding and maternal experience) and participating in quality assurance projects.

  • Provide high‐quality breastfeeding and lactation support and education to mothers and families.
  • Respond to referrals from Maternity wards and triage priority for referrals from Newborn Services.
  • Deliver staff education via face‐to‐face and virtual platforms.
  • Contribute to the improvement of state KPIs in infant feeding and maternal experience.
  • Participate in ongoing quality assurance projects.
  • Work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Fixed‐term opportunities are for 3 months until September 2025 at Casey and Dandenong sites. The ongoing part‐time opportunity is at Dandenong Hospital on Wednesdays and Fridays.

About You

The ideal candidate is a dynamic and experienced Lactation Consultant with a strong commitment to exceptional care and women‐centred support.

  • Relevant qualifications including an IBLCE qualification.
  • Proven clinical experience as a Registered Midwife or Registered Nurse working within maternity services.
  • Experience working within a maternity service.
  • A positive attitude and passion for women‐centred care.
  • Willingness to work autonomously and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Drive for continuous improvement across Women's and Newborn services.
