Assistant Director | 12 Month Non-Ongoing Opportunity | EL1 Equivalent
About the Role
A unique opportunity exists to join a Commonwealth integrity agency committed to ensuring lawful, transparent and accountable resource management. As an Assistant Director in the Regulatory Policy & Practice team, you’ll play a key role in shaping strategic policy, supporting legislative reform, and embedding best practice across a nationally significant regulatory function.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert policy analysis and prepare submissions for reviews relating to the agency’s functions and jurisdiction.
* Contribute to legislative reform processes and advise on the agency’s powers and administrative arrangements.
* Support cross-team collaboration by offering policy guidance and promoting regulatory best practice.
* Lead and coordinate meetings with government stakeholders on complex or sensitive matters.
* Mentor and support junior staff while fostering a high-performing, inclusive team culture.
* Deliver high-quality written briefs, reports and presentations to executive stakeholders.
About You
You’re a confident communicator and critical thinker with a strong background in public policy, regulatory practice or legislative reform. You thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about integrity in public administration.
To be successful, you will have:
* Demonstrated experience in policy analysis, particularly regulatory impact analysis or intergovernmental relations.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
* A collaborative mindset and experience working across diverse teams and disciplines.
* A commitment to public sector integrity and continuous improvement.
Eligibility Requirements
* Australian citizenship.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
* A graduate qualification in a relevant field is mandatory.
* A postgraduate qualification in law, environmental science or humanities will be looked upon favourably.
