The Financial Controller is accountable for developing, managing, and implementing best-practice financial processes across the organisation. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial activities, ensuring the company's finance function operates with precision and efficiency, and producing accurate financial and management accounts.
Reporting regularly to the CEO, the Financial Controller actively contributes to process enhancements, with a focus on bolstering margins, driving profitability and providing financial analysis of financial health against company goals, objectives and budgets.
Role responsibilities:
Financial Operations
* Ensure the accounting function operates efficiently and adheres to relevant deadlines, including month-end and quarterly reporting.
* Ensures tax and statutory records are completed and maintained in accordance with government legislation.
* Regularly review the value of internal systems and make leadership decisions for improvements.
* Prepare and analyse monthly management reports, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements, comparing them against budgetary and forecasted figures.
* Conduct weekly meetings with the CEO to present financial performance, position, cash flows, and identify strategic issues and opportunities.
* Communicate not only the figures but also the underlying rationale behind them to support strategic decision-making.
* Lead the charge in identifying and driving financial improvement initiatives.
Strategy & Planning
* Collaborate with the CEO to contribute to strategic business planning activities.
* Spearhead the development of monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets/forecasts.
* Lead the Finance department in the implementation of strategic initiatives and process improvements.
* Provide timely analysis and insights to the CEO to facilitate informed financial and strategic decision-making.
* Reviewing all revenue/sales/expenses reporting and providing insights/commentary on changes and trends.
Customer Focus
* Offer robust support to internal teams through accurate and punctual reporting.
* Analyse opportunities for improvement and deliver a structure to understand financial and accounting reporting and processes across all departments.
Required skills & experience:
* Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance
* CPA accreditation
* 8+ years’ experience in a Financial Controller position or similar
* Experience within a small, fast growing business
* Tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, business or similar
* Desire to be hands-on in managing our financial operations
* High-level of commercial acumen
