Job Details
The IT Financial Management Lead will work within the IT Business Management function of the IT Strategic Portfolio Governance & Management (IT SPG&M;) section. The role provides sound internal financial management and governance for the division and reports to the Assistant Director, IT Business Management.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Developing, managing and monitoring IT budgets ensuring alignment with agency and divisional priorities
- Preparing financial forecasts and facilitating the agencys annual bottom-up budget build and mid-year review processes
- Tracking and reporting on IT expenditure, identifying risks and opportunities
- Implementing controls and governance for IT spending, ensuring cost-effectiveness and value for money
- Leveraging existing FinOps capabilities to support cloud cost management and maximise business value from digital investments
- Preparing financial presentations for senior executives and stakeholders
- Providing detailed financial analysis and advice to support decision-making and preparation of committee papers
- Consolidating and analysing financial data including budgets, journals, and related financial documents to support reviews for CIOD
- Optimising licence and maintenance fees by identifying redundant or underutilised tools and opportunities for consolidation or renegotiation
- Assisting exploration and implementation of innovations or composable architectures to optimise technology operating and hosting costs
- Informing IT purchasing and procurement activities through financial analysis and summarisation
- Liaising with program finance teams and central group teams to progress financial management and budget activities
- Performing additional responsibilities as required by the Director, IT SPG&M;
About The Team
The position sits within the IT Strategic Portfolio Governance & Management (IT SPG&M;) section in the Chief Information Officer Division (CIOD).
IT SPG&M; manages and improves ICT business operations across the AEC including technical governance, demand governance, prioritisation, ICT delivery, and CIOD business management.

Essential Criteria
- Experience dealing with Public Service financial data
- Robust cost accounting experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confident dealing with senior stakeholders
- Ability to solve complex financial issues and work under pressure
- Strong attention to detail and experience using budgeting, forecasting and reporting tools
- Advanced computer software skills, including advanced Excel and other accounting packages
Desirable Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or related discipline, with 5+ years experience
- Professional accounting qualification such as CA or CPA preferred
- Experience with ICT procurement, expense management, and budget management in a federal government context
