Job Description: Clinical Neuropsychologist Permanent, Part Time position, Grade 3, 0.63 FTE Excellent benefits including salary packaging Fitzroy and Kew inpatient settings Challenging and rewarding work environment New leadership opportunity About the Role This new Grade 3 Clinical Neuropsychologist position will provide clinical neuropsychological services across St Vincent’s acute and subacute services, including the medical and rehabilitation inpatient wards. This consulting role will present a new leadership opportunity to develop and implement neuropsychology services, working in partnership with inpatient referrers and multi-disciplinary teams. The role will have autonomy to work across services to assist with person-centred, evidence-based, and timely care. This position will be required to work at two main locations; SVHM hospital in Fitzroy, and SVHM St George’s Health Service in Kew. Position duties: Provide high quality and efficient neuropsychological services to referred clients and families through diagnostic assessment, recommendations, verbal and written feedback and education Provide assessments and reports that focus on relative cognitive strengths and weaknesses, differential diagnosis, functional recommendation and, management strategies. Provide basic psychoeducation, brief counselling and support relevant to the needs of the cognitively impaired person and their carers. Conduct neuropsychological assessments with the use of interpreters, and consider the impact of clients’ communication, cultural, and education diversity on the test results. Provide assessments and reports that focus on relative cognitive strengths and weaknesses, differential diagnosis, functional recommendation and, management strategies. Classifications for this position will range from PL1 - PL4 ($108,279 - $123,905 per annum, pro rata for part time). Your Contribution Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Psychologist Endorsement in Clinical Neuropsychology from the Psychology Board Australia Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Neuropsychology recognised by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) Board-approved supervisor, or working towards this within next 6 months of commencing the role Minimum of five (5) years post-graduate clinical work experience in a relevant field of neuropsychology not including post-graduate clinical training placements Extensive clinical experience in and knowledge of the application of neuropsychology practice and principles, in the context of working with older people, people with dementia Experience in the application of neuropsychology practice and principles with younger adults presenting with ABI or ID and their families. These include medical and rehabilitation inpatient wards. POSITION PURPOSE To work within a flexible, interdisciplinary structure, that delivers a high-quality healthcare service. The role involves delivering neuropsychology services for clinically appropriate patients referred from the acute and subacute services. Responding to high priority referrals will be an initial focus of this new role from selected wards. Referral screening, advice and recommendations will be tailored to the diverse referral base. This role will provide education and support to clients, their families and/or primary carers as required. This role requires the neuropsychologist to work time-efficiently, flexibly and collaboratively across SVHM acute and subacute services, with a range of multidisciplinary team members, referring professionals, community professionals and other key stakeholders. Once this new senior clinical neuropsychology role has been established, supervisory responsibilities, evaluation, service planning and quality improvement activities can also form elements of this position. POSITION DUTIES Provide high quality and efficient neuropsychological services to referred clients and families through diagnostic assessment, recommendations, verbal and written feedback and education Demonstrates effective neuropsychology practice in accordance with professional and ethical standards of practice, and within organizational systems and constraints. Adheres to a standardised evidence-based approach to neuropsychological practice. Demonstrate substantial knowledge of medical diagnoses in the area of dementia and memory loss, with a focus on early diagnosis of neurodegenerative conditions, and knowledge of related psychological, behavioural, social and health issues. Experience in objective assessment of psychopathology to assist comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation, given the high prevalence of mental health comorbidities in this population. Experience in the application of neuropsychology practice and principles with younger adults presenting with ABI or ID and their families. Provide assessments and reports that focus on relative cognitive strengths and weaknesses, differential diagnosis, functional recommendation and, management strategies. Demonstrates proficiency in the evaluation of patients for decision making capacity, including knowledge of OPA guidelines. Role includes liaising with referrers to ensure capacity referrals are timely and appropriate. Provide basic psychoeducation, brief counselling and support relevant to the needs of the cognitively impaired person and their carers. Ability to work time effectively, efficiently and flexibly to cater to the demands of the service, and/or individual patients clinical circumstances Conduct neuropsychological assessments with the use of interpreters, and consider the impact of clients’ communication, cultural, and education diversity on the test results. Demonstrates effective communication and liaison with treating team(s), both verbally and in written form, including advocating for patients and appropriate use of service Problem solve, negotiate and manage conflict effectively. Identify, analyse and manage complex and demanding clinical and psychosocial issues and situations, with judgement, professionalism and with minimal consultation/supervision. Identify clients requiring continuity of care/ case management and makes recommendations. Maintain open and regular communication with the operation lead regarding clinical activity levels and upcoming staff leave to ensure adequate psychology services are in place Ensure optimal use of clinical capacity, regularly monitor capacity including for any gaps that may occur due to late changes/ cancellations to client appointments. Maintain the appropriate standard of medical record keeping and data collection as per SVHM and AHPRA guidelines. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the application of neuropsychology practice and principles, in the context of the current health care environment Experience of providing verbal and written neuropsychological assessment feedback to individuals, families and carers. Experience providing verbal psycho-education sessions to individuals, families, carers and/or service providers on topics related to the field of neuropsychology and/or the professional clinical context. Experience conducting assessments of decision making capacity. Highly developed interpersonal skills. These should incorporate qualities of excellent communication (verbal and written) and skills in collaboration, negotiation and conflict management. Computer skills (Word, Excel, Power point, Patient systems) Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, at an advanced level, by demonstrating professionalism, initiative, flexibility, and confidence Knowledge of, and ability to participate in quality improvement, and develop strategies to market the work of the profession within the organization, and beyond. Sound experience in professional and/or student supervision. Demonstrated ability for autonomous performance at a senior level in a clinical context.
