Primary objective
Ground Transport Drivers under the direction of the Ground Transport Manager provide transport services to clients of the
Alice Springs Hospital, including Renal Flynn Drive. This is a highly coordinated transport service to designated points within
the Alice Springs Environment including private accommodation, airport, commercial accommodation, and Adhoc requests.
Context statement
The Ground Transport Coordination team provides high-level patient focused transport services supporting Alice Springs
Hospital Services including Renal, Outpatient and Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS) requirements.
Key duties and responsibilities
Ground Transport Drivers under the direction of the Ground Transport Manager:
1. Provide safe, timely and effective transport of patients, ensuring that appropriate standards of care are provided
including adherence to Infection Prevention Control principles.
2. Use correct manual handling techniques for safe transfer of patients in and out of vehicles including wheelchair access.
3. Ensure accurate records are maintained through relevant data collection and appropriate record keeping including using
electronic booking system through smartphone technology.
4. Maintaining and cleaning of transport equipment and vehicles ensuring that vehicles are kept in optimal working
condition and all issues are reported.
5. Respect for patient's dignity, privacy and confidentiality when undertaking transport tasks.
6. Adhere to precautions instructions as per individual patient requirement and assist other staff, clients to adhere to same
instructions.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills when communicating with a diverse range of internal
and external stakeholders.
2. Physically capable of assisting patients with mobility restrictions using correct manual handling techniques.
3. Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and use initiative when problem solving.
4. Demonstrated ability to support a positive team culture and effectively interact with people from diverse cultures.
5. Capacity and willingness to work a rotating roster which includes morning and evening shifts over 7 days.
6. Current unrestricted Northern Territory driver's license.
7. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient care.
8. Ability to effectively participate in change management processes.
9. Current First Aid Certificate or in the process of obtaining.
