This role requires precise attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work from blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set Up and Operate Machines: Operate and set up a variety of machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, drills) to produce high-precision metal or plastic parts.
• Read and Interpret Blueprints: Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand the dimensions and tolerances of the parts to be produced.
• Select and Install Tools: Choose the correct cutting tools, speeds, and feeds based on the materials being worked with and the specifications provided.
• Measure and Inspect: Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to ensure parts meet the required dimensions and tolerances.
• Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure proper function. Report any mechanical issues or breakdowns to supervisors.
• Quality Control: Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet high-quality standards, performing final checks before parts are sent to assembly or finished product stages.
• Modify and Adjust Machines: Adjust machine settings to optimize performance, including correcting or making changes to tolerances during production runs.
• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve machining issues such as incorrect dimensions, tool wear, or machine malfunctions.
• Safety and Cleanliness: Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure the work area is clean and organized.
• Collaborate with Team Members: Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and other machinists to meet production goals and deadlines.
Qualifications:
• Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience as a machinist or in a similar role in a manufacturing environment.
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of machine tools and their operation, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drills.
• Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
• Precision Measurement: Experience with precision measurement tools, such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with machine tools, parts, or production processes.
• Attention to Detail: A high level of precision and accuracy when machining parts to ensure quality standards are met.
• Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of machining processes and maintenance.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training or certification in machining, manufacturing, or related fields is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy parts and materials (up to 50 lbs).
• Ability to stand for long periods and work in a noisy, sometimes dusty manufacturing environment.
• Strong manual dexterity for handling tools, parts, and measuring instruments.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with CNC Machines: Familiarity with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines or basic knowledge of programming for automated machinery.
• CAD/CAM Software: Basic knowledge of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) or CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software for part design and machine programming.
• Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and solve machine or tooling problems quickly.
• Industry Certification: Certification from a recognized organization, such as the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) or a similar body, is a plus.
