Visitor Experience Officer – Sarina Sugar Shed
Mackay Regional Council is seeking experienced and customer-focused Visitor Experience Officers to support the day-to-day operations of the Sarina Sugar Shed, one of the region’s most popular visitor attractions.
This is a casual role that delivers high-quality visitor experiences through guided tours, café and retail service, product sampling, point-of-sale transactions and administrative support. The position also plays an important role in promoting the Sarina Sugar Shed and building strong relationships with visitors, volunteers and tourism stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver engaging, safe and informative guided tours
* Provide café service including food preparation, coffee and beverages
* Deliver retail and point-of-sale service, including cash handling and reconciliation
* Maintain stock control, merchandising and visual displays
* Respond to tour bookings, wholesale enquiries and general customer enquiries
* Support administrative functions using booking and sales systems
* Ensure Responsible Service of Alcohol requirements are met
* Assist with stakeholder and tourism operator engagement
* Uphold workplace health and safety standards at all times
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
* Current QLD “C” Class Driver Licence or interstate equivalent (with ability to transfer to QLD within three months of commencement)
* Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate
* Basic Food Safety Certificate (or willingness to obtain upon commencement)
Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in tourism, hospitality or retail environments
* Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality customer service
Skills
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage across a broad range of audiences
* Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written
* Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
* Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and resolve routine issues
* Positive, friendly and adaptable approach to work
* Commitment to continuous improvement and quality service outcomes
Knowledge
* Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Point of Sale (POS) systems
Special Requirements
* Availability to work an Any 5 out of 7 rosters (with the occasional weekend)
Desirable
* Current First Aid Certificate
* Experience in the sugar or craft beverage industry
* Knowledge of the tourism industry and regional attractions
* Experience using online booking systems
* Demonstrated ability to promote and sell merchandise
