Workshop Foreman
The Company:
Sofraco are a premium engineering service supplier to Defence, Marine and Commercial industries. Our works are primarily focused on the upgrade and sustainment of marine equipment. We are a small, energetic, and dynamic team covering multiple engineering disciplines and trades. We have over 35 years' experience and are highly regarded in our field.
The Role:
The role will be based out of our Alexandria workshop, supporting our field service teams in the greater Sydney region. The position is Monday to Friday with occasional overtime or weekend work when required.
The Workshop Foreman role is a multi-faceted role, including both leadership responsibilities as well as the requirement for technical oversight and hands-on assistance.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
* Handle day to day running of the workshop operating in a leadership, mentoring and technical role.
* Running manufacturing, service and overhaul tasks within the workshop, including engaging subcontractors and preparation of required test/service reports or OQE.
* Support development of quotations for growth/future work.
* Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations at all times by maintaining safe work practices.
* Maintain workshop operating standards and procedures in compliance with ISO9001, 45001, and 14001.
* Maintain test and measurement equipment and liaise with the storeman/procurement to ensure calibration of equipment is in-date.
* Maintain lifting and rigging equipment, ensuring test and tagging compliance.
* Collaborate with the storeman/procurement to maintain workshop inventory and consumables stock levels.
* Liaise with and assist Field Service Supervisors with daily project requirements, including materials, consumables & tools.
* Preparation for deployment and post-care of mobile equipment deployed to project sites.
* Manage waste materials and correct disposal procedures.
* Monitor workshop access and ensure workshop safety and security throughout the day.
* Ensure effective cost control and productivity. Drive productivity and capability improvements.
* Liaise with Directors / Managers / Field Service Supervisors on managing workflows, including resources, progress, and completion/delivery dates.
* Work with Directors / Managers regarding Human Resource requirements within the workshop team, including training and development.
* Develop and maintain good relationships with managers, employees, suppliers, and customers.
* Adhere to workshop plant maintenance schedule, including fleet vehicles if required, and engage subcontractors for periodic site inspections (Pressure vessels, racking, fire protection, and others).
* Conduct daily toolbox talks for staff in the workshop.
Main Requirements & Qualifications:
Ideally, you will be from a maintenance, fabrication or mechanical background and can demonstrate the ability to manage productivity and logistics throughout the production process. Strong leadership, supplier liaison and communication skills are required. Strong team-building and people skills would be advantageous.
* Trade or Engineering qualification in a Mechanical or Marine field.
* Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a related position (desirable).
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
* Must have sound IT skillset for use of MS Office programs, Adobe Acrobat.
* Desirable candidates to possess strong initiative and motivation characteristics.

* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* Read and interpret technical drawings.
* Willing to obtain a national police certificate for security.
* Willing to complete drug and alcohol testing.
* Willing to complete medical testing for basic health, mobility, and fitness.
* Must hold or be willing to obtain a General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
* Experience in basic Machining and/or Welding would be advantageous.
* Experience with Marine Equipment, Hydraulic Equipment or Pumping Equipment would be advantageous.
* Must hold or be able to hold a valid Forklift Licence.
* Must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents for security requirements.
