Overview
Design Manager - Roads & Highways. This role is based in Melbourne and is intended for a senior practitioner (15+ years' experience) who is well known and respected within the local transport infrastructure market. The role involves delivering technical design management and design consultancy services of a complex nature (design fees up to $2 million), while providing visible, credible leadership across pursuits and project delivery.

The Role
You will join our Roads & Highways team in Melbourne to deliver design management and design consultancy services for complex road and highway projects. Responsibilities include providing senior technical leadership, managing design activities from preliminary to final design, and ensuring client requirements are met while maintaining strong leadership across projects.
Responsibilities
* Ensure high-quality deliverables that align with the project brief and all relevant project, stakeholder and statutory requirements.
* Provide senior technical leadership to develop and manage project scope, delivering fit-for-purpose road and highway design solutions with client and contractor stakeholders.
* Implement strategies to address program, delivery and design risk; define and apply appropriate standards and requirements.
* Manage all design activities from preliminary through to detailed and final design, including value engineering, interactive design and construct contractor workshops, design package coordination, version control and stakeholder distribution.
* Support strategic pursuits by bringing recognised roads design leadership, credibility and market presence to client and partner engagements.
* Be accountable for client satisfaction by ensuring suitably skilled resources are available to deliver project outcomes.
* Communicate openly and regularly with internal contributors, clients, contractors and approval authorities.
* Manage technical disputes, design clarifications and scope definition to achieve best-for-project outcomes.
About You
* Tertiary qualifications in Engineering.
* CPEng accreditation.
* RPEQ / RPEV / NSW PER (or ability to obtain).
* Demonstrated experience in detailed design and design management across Roads & Highways, transport infrastructure and major linear projects.
* 15+ years' experience with a strong reputation and industry recognition in the local transport market.
* Proven leadership and management experience across multidisciplinary design teams.
* Thorough knowledge of relevant roads and transport authority standards and regulatory frameworks.
* High-level communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with senior clients, authorities and delivery partners.
