About the role
Men's Rugby World Cup Australia **** is excited to announce we are seeking a Communications & PR Manager to join our Sydney team You will play a vital role in creating and delivering a strong media and communications strategy that brings the Men's Rugby World Cup Australia **** to life. Working alongside the Senior Manager of Communications, this role leads proactive storytelling, media relations, and reputation management across all platforms. It's a key position in boosting national and global visibility for the tournament and ensuring our messaging is consistent, engaging and well-managed.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to
Support the Senior Manager of Communications in developing and implementing an effective media and communications strategy that increases coverage, strengthens RWC ****'s reputation and mitigates risks.
Build, strengthen and manage critical media and stakeholder relationships across TV, radio, print, digital media and emerging platforms.
Identify and engage targeted media outlets both within and beyond sport to broaden event reach and diversify audience segments.
Work collaboratively with the wider World Rugby and Australian Rugby Communications teams to maximise promotional opportunities and maintain message alignment.
Create and execute integrated earned and owned media campaigns that support the tournament's strategic objectives.
Develop high-quality written content, including media releases, talking points, briefing notes, and event communications.
Work with PR, RWC **** Ambassadors and media agencies to plan and deliver milestone events such as One Year to Go and 100 Days to Go.
Drive the development of compelling narratives and storytelling that resonate with diverse audiences.
Assist in managing issues and media inquiries.
Oversee media monitoring, insights generation, and reporting to track performance and inform strategic decision-making.
Contribute to organisation-wide messaging for internal and external use, ensuring clarity, alignment, and strong brand consistency.
About you
You'll bring strong communications and PR experience, a solid understanding of the Australian media landscape, and the ability to manage multiple campaigns and stakeholders confidently. You'll have proven experience delivering high-impact media activity for major events, along with excellent writing, organisation, and relationship-building skills. You're a proactive self-starter who works well under pressure, collaborates easily, and stays grounded and adaptable. Flexibility to travel and support out-of-hours activity is essential as the tournament approaches.
Qualifications & Experience
5-7 years' experience in a similar communications or PR role, either in-house or agency-side, with relevant qualifications in communications, journalism or similar fields.
Proven experience planning, managing and delivering large-scale promotional or public events that achieve strong media and publicity results.
Strong ability to build and maintain positive relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.
Deep understanding of the Australian media landscape, with awareness of global media trends.
Broad knowledge of what drives content performance across print, radio, TV, digital and thought-leadership platforms.
Passion for creative ideas, storytelling and producing standout content.
Innovative mindset — curious, challenges the norm, and seeks new ways to drive engagement.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
Strong planning, organisation and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines.
Well-established media contacts across Australia and a proven track record of generating strong, consistent media coverage.
