Two Exciting Job Opportunities – Dolphin Discovery Centre Bunbury
The Dolphin Discovery Centre Bunbury, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to marine research, conservation, and education, is seeking motivated and reliable staff to join our team. We currently have two vacancies that we are seeking to fill. Details of the positions are provided as follows:
Aquarist (Casual)
Role Overview:
As a casual Aquarist you will be responsible for the daily care, health, and maintenance of aquatic animals and their habitats. This role ensures the highest standards of animal welfare, water quality, exhibit presentation, and guest engagement.
* Key Responsibilities:
o Undertakes animal care & welfare.
o Responsible for the daily care, feeding, health monitoring, and enrichment of aquatic animals.
o Ensures compliance with animal welfare standards, ethical guidelines and best practices.
o Assists in the development of species-specific husbandry protocols.
o Observes animal health and behaviour; report concerns to Marine Discovery Centre Manager.
o Supports quarantine procedures and treatment protocols under supervision.
o Conducts routine water testing.
o Cleans tanks and back-of-house systems.
o Performs partial water changes and assists with filtration maintenance.
Selection Criteria:
* Possession of bachelor's degree in marine biology and/or experience working within a marine conservation environment.
* Verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to interact with visitors, colleagues and other stakeholders in a range of contexts.
Education and Program Officer (Permanent Part Time, 14 hours, 2 days per week)
Role Overview:
The Education and Program Officer is responsible for coordinating, developing, and delivering engaging marine environmental education programs for schools and the wider community. The role focuses on building strong relationships with schools, increasing participation in programs, supporting educators, and fostering a deeper understanding of marine conservation.
* Key Responsibilities:
o Manages bookings for school excursions, incursions, and events.
o Liaises with teachers and school staff as related to organising program logistics.
o Maintains booking systems, communication records, and event schedules.
o Supports the smooth delivery of programs through effective planning and coordination.
Selection Criteria:
* Experience developing and delivering education programs.
* Verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills, ability to interact with visitors, colleagues and other stakeholders in a range of contexts and build relationships with school and community representatives.
Working Requirements
Aquarist:
* Weekend and public holiday work will apply where penalty rates will be paid.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or early mornings as required.
Education and Program Officer:
* Work hours will normally be between Monday and Friday.
* Ability to work flexible hours, particularly in school holidays and events is a requirement.
Conditions of Employment for Both Positions
