**Part Time 2 days per week -Monday and Wednesday.**
The Education Program Guide is primarily responsible for communicating the history and significance of Cockatoo Island and other Harbour Trust sites. Education programs are linked to NSW Syllabus and Australian Curriculum Outcomes and are developed to ensure student engagement, connection, and historical learning. Programs are developed and delivered in education Stages. Content and communication (ideas, vocabulary, and questioning) within the programs are specific to each Stage.
Applicants should have previous experience in the delivery of a variety of school education programs and in adapting engagement strategies, within content parameters, to ensure best education practices.
While the primary responsibility of Education Program Guides is to deliver education programs, they will also engage in research as individuals and/or in group projects, which contribute to the development of new guided tour or education programs and offerings for teachers, schools, community education providers, and the general public.
**Role accountabilities**:
- Deliver Harbour Trust education programs to a range of students including Early Learners, Primary school students, High school students and Tertiary Students. Communicating the cultural, heritage and educational aspects of the Harbour Trust's sites.
- Deliver Stage-specific program content via direct teaching, questioning and hands-on learning experiences.
- Greet schools and register visitors while providing a high level of visitor engagement and experience.
- Perform safety briefings and at all times maintain work health and safety awareness and monitor visitor's activities to ensure compliance with the Harbour Trust's policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Engage with and promote the Harbour Trust's role in the management of heritage sites.
- Set up education props, resources and learning spaces as required for education programs.
- Distribute resources, operate audio-visual and other technology as required during education programs.
- Under guidance from the Education and Public Programs Officer, research histories associated with the Harbour Trust, to develop education material that meets the needs of The Harbour Trust's Education Programs to support student, teacher, and community learning.
- Willingness and ability to lead general interest tours on occasion to support scheduling and facilitate visitor experience.

- Capacity to learn lesson/tour content and adapt approach and voice to maintain visitor/student engagement.
- Demonstrated experience working with children in an education, museum or heritage setting.
- Ensure the delivery of the program meets Stage Outcomes and aligns with the voice and messaging of the Harbour Trust.
- Ability to deliver educational content from Early Learning to Tertiary, and to a variety of learners.
- A desire for personal engagement with historical content, story-sharing, and the ability to empathise with different viewpoints in historical content.
- An interest in the history, environmental conditions and cultural significance of the sites and the Harbour Trust's history.
- Demonstrated research and development skills, ideally in museum or heritage education.
- Demonstrated customer service and visitor experience in an equivalent environment
- Demonstrated communication skills - The ability to adapt voice, vocabulary and pace to meet the needs of different education Stages.
- Ability to manage time and competing priorities.
- Willingness and ability to travel to and work across different Harbour Trust sites as required.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to work individually.
- Capacity to control and manage groups of adults and children and to maintain constant awareness of work health and safety responsibilities.
- Possession of or willingness to acquire a First Aid Certificate.
- Availability to work Monday and Wednesday
- A current Working with Children Check.

- Proven experience with students with diverse learning needs.
- Proven experience in teaching Australian history, combined with a willingness to undertake further training specific to program content.
- Willingness to undertake further training as required
- Experience and/or qualifications in historical research.
- An understanding of ACARA Curriculum documents.
- First Aid Certificate.
**Qualifications**:
Qualifications in school education, museum and heritage studies or experience in related fields.
**Salary**: $63,221 pro rated to weekly hours. Equivalent to an hourly rate of $32.31, plus attractive leave provisions and 10.5% superannuation.
